It has been reported that the number of foreign tourists visiting Marmaris and its environs reached 2,174,188 by the end of Septembe 2006r. M. Temel Koçaklar, Governor of Muğla, declared in a written statement that, via air or sea, more than 2 million tourists reached the region which is home to leading tourism hubs like Marmaris
Fethiye and Bodrum and two international airports in Dalaman, Milas and Bodrum. Koçaklar also stated that the vivacity in the tourism sector continued and that they expected to reach last year's tourist numbers. According to the statement, British tourists ranked first with 933 thousand 991 visitors among the foreign tourists coming to the region via air or sea. Lastly, experts numbers (estimated based on existing researches and census) t are optimistic about next year when it comes to the number of arrivals.
